ORU currently offers test-outs (comprehensive exams) in select classes for students who feel they have extensive knowledge in that area. If the student scores an grade of "C" or higher the respective letter grade is posted to their transcript along with the credits for the course. If the student does not pass the exam a grade of "NP" is posted (GPA neutral) and no credit is earned.
We are considering moving to having the grading method change to being a pass/no pass so that the resulting grade is GPA neutral regardless of their results.
For those of you who offer comprehensive exams for courses in lieu of completing the actual course, do you award a letter grade or is the result posted as pass/no pass?
Thank you in advance for your input and insight.
David
