[Oacrao-l] Straighterline and SOPHIA

Good afternoon,

Here at Oral Roberts University, we forwarded course descriptions and syllabi of Sophia and Straighter Line courses to each department for review of equivalency.  From their responses we generated a list of approved courses.

Students are permitted to take the courses listed for transfer.

We also offer a petitions process for the departments to review additional courses taken from these online platforms for transfer. Students that prefer the Study.com or Saylor Academy formats submit courses in this manner for approval.

Some schools have decided to not accept or permit any course that is offered by their department to transfer from any online platform that is not affiliated with a brick and mortar institution.

CAUTION: THIS EMAIL ORIGINATED FROM OUTSIDE OF ORU

We are handling them similar to Dustin on a course-by-course basis.  We have not accepted any coursework from Study.com.

In total, we have accepted two courses from Straighterline and roughly 15 from Sophia.

Our Vice President for Academic Affairs will be discussing this in more detail with the Academic Deans and Departmental Chairs after the first of the year.  The requests continue to come through for us on a weekly (if not daily) basis.

We are just curious who takes Straighterline and SOPHIA credits. And also maybe Study.com.

We have been taking Straighterline and SOPHIA, evaluating them by course. We are evaluating if we should continue to accept these.

If you don’t take them, we are curious why not.
