Oklahoma State University uses the Saturday commencement date as the degree conferral date for terms in which we hold commencement ceremonies (spring and fall), and the last day of the term in the summer when we don't hold a commencement ceremony.

For NSU, we use the day after the term ends for Fall and Spring. For summer conferral, we use the last day of classes. I am not sure the rationale behind those dates if there is any, but that's how it was established when I came in 3 years ago.

How does your institution determine the conferral date?

  *   Is it tied to the commencement ceremony?
  *   The last day of classes?
  *   The end of the term?
  *   The date degrees are officially awarded following final audits?
  *   Something else?

I'd appreciate hearing how your institution handles this and the reasoning behind your practice.
