[Oacrao-l] Conferral dates

I agree with Troy. When I first came into the office, they were always set to be conferred on the Monday following the end of the semester. It began messing up our NSC reporting a bit ago. I never questioned that date. I believe I reached out to the OSRHE for guidance. As I recall there was nothing set in policy. I moved the conferral date to the last day of each published semester.

Good morning, everyone!

Redlands uses the last day of classes as the graduation day for summer, fall, and spring grads.

We hold one commencement ceremony at or near the end of the spring semester for the previous fall grads, current spring grads, and upcoming summer grads with 6 or fewer credits to complete in the summer.

We utilize the National Student Clearinghouse for enhanced core enrollment reporting, NSLDS SSCR reporting, enrollment verification, and degree verification. A graduation date outside of the semester start and stop dates can cause issues, which is why we opted for the last date of a term as the grad date.

Hope this helps!

Respectfully,
Troy

Subject: [Oacrao-l] Conferral dates

THIS MESSAGE WAS RECEIVED FROM AN EXTERNAL SENDER.
Colleagues,

I'm curious how other institutions determine their degree conferral dates.

I have been at OCU for 30 years, and historically our conferral date matched the commencement ceremony date. When we stopped holding separate summer and fall commencement ceremonies, we began using the last day of classes as the conferral date for those terms.

For some reason, I'm now questioning whether that's the best approach.

How does your institution determine the conferral date?

  * Is it tied to the commencement ceremony?
  * The last day of classes?
  * The end of the term?
  * The date degrees are officially awarded following final audits?
  *   Something else?

I'd appreciate hearing how your institution handles this and the reasoning behind your practice.
Thanks,
