As the holiday season fast approaches most homeless students and students from foster care don't have families to return to during academic breaks. Instead of enjoying the warmth of home and family, they scramble for a place to stay, often hiding their situation due to embarrassment. The fear of homelessness during breaks creates tremendous stress, preventing students from focusing on schoolwork. The flyer includes five specific steps that higher education communities can take to support homeless and foster youth, particularly during the holidays and/or during dorm closings.
2. Share information about the Home for the Holidays campaign with colleagues or friends who may be interested in getting involved.
3. Participate in the Home for the Holidays social media campaign by using the #HomelessHolidayBreak hashtag to spread the word. Use the image attached, if desired, to accompany your social media posts.
