SWASFAA Team Chatter has posted a new item, 'Happy Fourth of July!'

I know everyone is gearing up for the Independence Day weekend, so I’ll make this short. We have lots of great stuff coming up in the near future. Here’s the lowdown:

First, we have a webinar scheduled for 10 a.m. CST on Wednesday, July 8. Once again, this webinar is free to all SWASFAA members. The discussion will focus on unusual enrollment situations, dependency overrides, and other dependency issues. To register, email your name and institution to Denise Welch at dwelch at panola.edu. It doesn’t get much simpler than that … until we start talking about dependency issues, at which point everything could get VERY complicated. I’m confident our panelists will help take the mystery out of it, though, so I hope you'll take advantage of this training event.

Next, we are about to go live with the registration for the annual conference, boot camp, and the leadership workshop. I can’t wait to start inundating everyone with information. Our local arrangements chair, Joni Beader, has some exciting activities scheduled for the week, and you’re not going to want to miss out. Last year everyone was pumped about going to New Orleans, and Albuquerque is going to be just as much fun. The Sandia Resort and Casino is surrounded by the beautiful Sandia mountains.  It's so pretty there that you might not want to leave. When I visited the area for the NMASFAA Conference last April, I explored the city and took some photographs of the amazing scenery.
Check them out on the Facebook page for the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Some of the pictures turned out so well that I ordered them on canvases (thank you, Groupon!).  This one is my favorite (see below). I ordered this picture on a 40” x 30” canvas, and I plan to hang it in my home. That’s how much I loved Albuquerque. I’ve traveled all over the world, but the best sunsets, hands-down, are in New Mexico. After a long day of training, we all need to experience a little serenity. I already feel calmer (and if you know me, then that’s saying a lot).

Finally, we have an election coming up soon. We’ll be voting on a president-elect, secretary, and delegates for Oklahoma and Texas. I can’t believe it’s already time to vote for the 2016 officers. I feel like it should still be 1995. I must be getting old. But some of you are a lot older than I am, which makes me feel better.

I want to wish everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July. If you’re traveling somewhere, then I hope you have a safe trip. Have fun with your friends and family. Eat lots of food. Drink a lot of … water (it’s hot out there!). And remember, when you watch the fireworks, multiply the image by ten, and that will give you an idea of how colorful the sunsets in New Mexico are.
