I am forwarding the e-mail below to ask everyone to contact our Oklahoma delegation and send the attached letters in support of the SEOG, FWS and Perkins programs.  I am sorry for the late notice, but I just received the e-mail myself.  If you have time can you please send the letters before noon tomorrow.  The have included the list of staffers that should receive the letters.

I think everyone agrees these are important programs we need to keep.

Hello All-

Please disregard if you have already received this.  However, I sent the first request to an old list.

Please ask your organization's membership  to reach out to their representative to sign on to the attached letters.   This type of advocacy is what got us the extension and will ultimately save the program.  I know this is a short turnaround but is important that they hear from us today!

There are two letters circulating on the hill in both the Senate and the House in support of the Campus-Based Aid Programs, including Perkins Loans.  The deadline for co-signers of this letter is noon on March 17, so please contact your Senators or Representatives as soon as possible to urge them to sign on. A copy of the letters and a listing of contact information for Senate and House education staffers is attached with this message.

The effort is led by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). The letter is addressed to Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Chairman on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, as well as Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the same subcommittee in the Senate.  The effort in the House is led by Rep. Richard Hannah (R-NY) and Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY), along with two of Perkins' strongest champions, Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI). The letter is addressed to Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), Chairman of the House Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee, and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), his Democratic counterpart.

The letters have a clear and simple ask : "We request that the SEOG program be funded at $757 million, and that the FWS program be funded at $1 billion.  We further ask that the Perkins Loan program, which has been extended through September 30, 2017, maintain its funding so that its structure can be fully considered during the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act."
