[Oasfaa] FA Requirements for Students

Good Morning!

Does anyone have a requirement that students come by the FA office or acknowledge their balance owed, etc. at the start of the term/year? If so, what does that look like - what is the requirement, by when, and what happens if they don't do it?

Years ago, we required students to come by the FA office to just speak with a counselor, know what they owed or anything we needed from them, and they had to get a sticker on their ID for it to be active. We stopped doing it, but are considering trying something like that again. Our current processes are a lot more passive. Students can move in and essentially go the whole semester without paying anything or acknowledging their balance if they want to just stick their head in the sand and ignore out emails and outreach. We are applying late fees to them each month, but again, they can easily ignore that. We want to consider a better attention grabber. This last year, we got into a situation where we had multiple students that were still in their dorms at the start of the spring semester, unable to enroll because they owed so much on fall, and we had to go ask them to pack up their rooms and go home, which was terrible. We want to avoid things getting this far.
We're having a meeting to brainstorm about this and wanted to hear from some other schools! Would love to hear what you do or don't do that you like or don't like!
