The University of Kansas, Office of Student Financial Aid, announces the
following position opening for a Financial Aid Counselor:       

The Financial Aid Counselor in the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA)
provides quality financial aid counseling to students, prospective students,
and families and assists the Director, Associate Directors, and Assistant
Directors with various federal and state financial aid program
responsibilities.  The OSFA is a unit within the Division of Student
Affairs.

The OSFA is responsible for providing a variety of financial aid services to
students, prospective students, and families.  The OSFA contributes to the
educational mission of the University by assisting students in and through
the process of funding their higher education.  Approximately 51% of KU's
28,000 students receive some type of financial aid assistance.

General responsibilities: Financial Aid Counselor will provide financial aid
counseling and presentations for current and prospective students and
families.  All responsibilities are performed in accordance with the
professional and ethical guidelines, including federal, state, and
university regulations governing financial aid programs.  The Financial Aid
Counselor reports to the Director of the OSFA and is an active member of the
OSFA administrative team.

The responsibilities of the Financial Aid Counselor include but are not
limited to:

1.  Counsels with prospective and current students and families concerning
school- 
     related financial aid concerns including the application and awarding
process, 
     budgeting and the securing of resources to meet expenses.  
2.  Coordinates staff at the resource desk and phones.
3.  Prepares & conducts presentations on financial aid related information.
4.  Participates in the administrative team to determine the needs of the
OSFA.
5.  Interviews students seeking KU Endowment Association Loans.
6.  Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the
OSFA.

Required Qualifications:
1.  Bachelor's Degree. 
2.  Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
1.  Master's degree.
2.  Experience with financial aid or closely related field.
3.  Demonstrated interpersonal skills for working with a diverse student
population.
4.  Demonstrated experience in problem solving.
5.  Familiarity with KU.

Salary Range:
$23,000-$25,000. Non-Exempt, regular appointment, subject to review and
reappointment.
