[Oasfaa] Updating FAFSA Info

Hi Folks,

Would like to hear your opinions. Returning student completes renewal FAFSA in January as a dependent student. Calls in March and says he's married and wants to refile. Tell him sorry, but we can't update filing status due to change in marital staus. Student calls back in July and says they are going to have a baby in December. Will it affect his filing status? He says yes to providing more than half support. So, is he now independent for federal aid purposes based on having a dependent, or if not now will he be independent once the child is born? Yes or no and why?
