<BR>The University of Kansas Lawrence Comptroller's Office invites applications
<BR>for the position of Bursar. The Campus has 26,000 students and 4,000
<BR>faculty and staff in Lawrence, a diverse community of 80,000 set in the
<BR>rolling hills of northeast Kansas, 40 minutes west of Kansas City and 25
<BR>minutes east of Topeka, the state capital.
<BR>
<BR>The Lawrence campus has a FY 2001 operating budget of $336 million: $218
<BR>million in general use funds, $76 million in restricted use funds, and $42
<BR>million in service clearing and auxiliary use funds.
<BR>
<BR>The University is governed by the Kansas Board of Regents and is a member of
<BR>the Association of American Universities and is a Carnegie Research I
<BR>university. The University of Kansas is accredited by the North Central
<BR>Association of Colleges and Schools.

<BR>DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
<BR>This is an administrative management, FLSA exempt position in the
<BR>Comptroller's Office. The Bursar reports to the Associate Comptroller and
<BR>manages the General Accounting Office. This position is responsible for the
<BR>receipt of and the accounting for all funds received by the University.
<BR>This position includes the following duties:
<BR>1. Manages the collection of receivables, fees, and the receipt of
<BR>funds from miscellaneous sources via the University's centralized
<BR>billing/receivable system (BRS), accounting for all receipts through the
<BR>University accounting system (PeopleSoft). Manages the university
<BR>cashiering function and maintains proper internal controls to ensure the
<BR>integrity of the receipt and refunding activities.
<BR>2. Participates in system development and maintenance of the Receipts
<BR>System, the Billings and Receivables System (BRS) and PeopleSoft Student
<BR>Admin. System.
<BR>3. Must communicate effectively with students, parents, the University
<BR>community, and state and federal offices.
<BR>4. Must interpret and apply federal and state laws, guidelines and
<BR>policies as they relate to the functions of the Bursar's area. Develop and
<BR>recommend policies and procedures for the Bursar's Office as well as for the
<BR>University.
<BR>5. Manages the scholarships and sponsorships of students from outside
<BR>agencies.
<BR>6. Coordinates the State of Kansas setoff hearings and meetings
<BR>7. Represents the Comptroller's Office by participating on various
<BR>university committees and attending regional and national workshops and
<BR>conventions.
<BR>
<BR>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
<BR>* Bachelors degree
<BR>* Good written and oral communication skills
<BR>* A strong accounting background demonstrated by both education and at
<BR>least three years work experience
<BR>* Strong computer experience in financial accounting systems and/or
<BR>student record systems
<BR>* Supervisory and management experience
<BR>*
<BR>* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
<BR>*
<BR>* Master's degree in business accounting or other related field
<BR>* CPA certificate
<BR>* Knowledge of university and state regulations
<BR>* Experience in planning, implementing, upgrading and reporting within
<BR>a large client server system
<BR>* Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and/or PeopleSoft Human
<BR>Resources and Student Administration
<BR>* Experience managing a cashiering function

<BR>TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
<BR>
<BR>The position will be filled as soon as possible. This is a 12-month
<BR>continuing appointment subject to review and reappointment. The salary
<BR>will be commensurate with the responsibilities and experience with the
<BR>starting range from $43,500 - $48,500.
