Background: College Goal Sunday (CGS) is a nationwide program, sponsored in part by the Lumina Foundation. The program began in 1989 in Indiana but now is present in a variety of states around the country. The goal is to increase college and financial aid awareness, particularly to first-generation college going families. Host sites typically include support staff volunteers who can assist students and families with information about applying for financial aid and other important college awareness information. Although many of the CGS events are hosted on campuses, it is acceptable to host an event in a community center, library or other site that will attract families and students eager to learn about the higher education experience.

Each year our program grows stronger. Last year was a great success with approximately 1,869 students and family members attending one of the 33 sites around the state. This represented an increase of over 500 attendees. We hope that this year's events will be even more successful.

A statewide public relations campaign is planned to attract attendees. Additionally, to assist CGS Site Coordinators in effectively marketing their individual event, marketing grants in the amount of $500 per school are available. Please contact your Public Relations office if you need more information or a copy of the required Marketing Proposal Form.

Site coordinators can expect to receive much more information about structuring and marketing their event from the College Goal Sunday Management Team. If you are interested in hosting a College Goal Sunday event either on your campus or in your area, please contact Patricia Wiles at pwiles@ogslp.org or (405) 234-4297 by no later than October 31, 2004.
