Afternoon event, benefitting the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary of Norman, is
this Saturday, Sept 24 at Reaves Park in Norman. Reaves Park is on Jenkins
Avenue south of Lindsey Street, north of Highway 9 (south of the stadium, north
of the Lloyd Noble Center, east of the Softball field). </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Registration for events begins at 10:00, with the
competition for Frisbee dogs beginning at 10:30. The Frisbee competitions
will continue thru the morning with the final round for amateurs at 12:30.
The final round for the Oklahoma Toss'n Catch is at 1:30 (who knew there was a
whole "racing circuit" for Frisbee dogs?!). </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>2:30 is the start of the "dog show events",
starting with the Doxie Derby. OK, go ahead and laugh, but if you have
ever seen a dachshund run, you know those little suckers can really RUN even on
those little bitty legs. If you have or like dachshunds, this is the event
for you! You'll never see more dachshunds in one place and it's just a
HOOT! Bring your dachshund, even if he or she doesn't run. Heck,
bring your dog, no matter the breed---this is THE big doggie social
event of the year in Norman. Our Bismarck is almost 14 so he doesn't
race any more, and Lily just doesn't race period (she stalls in the starting
gate). Spanky would love to compete, but alas, altho he has the obstinacy
of a dachshund, he's obviously a chihuahua. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>After the Doxie Derby, they'll have competitions
for the fastest tail wag, biggest feet, owner/pet look-alike, prettiest eyes,
best kisser, muttliest mutt, etc. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>If you intend to enter your dog in a competition,
bring proof of vaccination as they require that for entry. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>There WILL be about 30 dogs available for adoption
so be prepared for having your heartstrings tugged. They will also have
low cost vaccinations ($5 rabies and $15 booster shots). </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>This is new....Pet Glamour Shots AND they'll have a
Pet Psychic! I don' know about that....I don't know if I can handle REALLY
knowing what they're thinking. My dogs think ANY picture of them is a
glamour shot. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>It will be a fun Saturday (remember, no Sooner or
Cowboy football this weekend) and a welcome break from watching coverage of
Hurricane Rita. If you want more information, contact Second Chance at
321-1915. Have a great weekend!</FONT></DIV>
