<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Calibri size=3>Over the past few weeks, some of you have shared your concerns with me regarding the elimination of the FFEL program in President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2010 budget framework.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Many of you feel that FFELP versus Direct Loans is an issue that should be debated by Congress and not pushed through the legislative process in a budget bill.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Hearings <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>and debates are not required if FFELP termination is included in a budget bill or budget reconciliation instruction.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>If Congress were to file a stand-alone bill that specifically addresses the termination of FFELP, this would allow hearings and debates to take place in order to discuss the impact of the bill and the desire of constituents.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face=Calibri size=3> </FONT></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face=Calibri>The best way to have your voice heard is to contact the delegation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I have attached a sample letter that was sent to the Arkansas association.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>They encouraged their members to contact their state delegation to have them sign the letter and then send it to the Senate Committee on Budget.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN></FONT></FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Calibri size=3>Whatever your opinion is, I would encourage you to contact the Oklahoma delegation to let them know how you feel.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>It’s important that our legislators know how those of us “in the trenches” feel about issues that have a direct impact on us.</FONT></P>
