Hello all! I hope you're all doing well and finding ways to connect to family and friends. I pressume most of you (or folks from your schools) are trying to determine how to award the aid to students from the CAREs act. The application process is somewhat complicated
if you don't have a grant writer/department at your school. There are basically three things you have to complete to apply. SF-424, SF-424 supplement and the CertificationAgreement. One thing to note is the amount that should be entered on the application
and the certification agreement is the half of your total allocation that is designated to go to students. You should not put the full allocation amount on these docs.

I wanted to give you some resources (in addition to the emails you've probably received directly from ED) to help your school through the process of awarding these emergency grants to students. As a caveat, this is my interpretation and understanding of what
we are to do. Take it for what it's worth. 🙂
I've read a lot and listened to webinars and podcasts and here's the two latest ones from NASFAA that I think are really good information. The main thing that I think is difficult for aid administrators is that
this is not Title IV aid so students don't have be FAFSA filers or even eligible to file a FAFSA to receive funds. It's up to the school so as long as the school can document the reasoning behind the decisions, they will be good.

The reporting piece seems to also be much different (they believe) than what we typically do for pell and loan reporting to COD. They believe we will simply report by id # with the amount and how we determined they had a need caused by Covid-19. If that's the
case, then we (your school, not necessarily the financial aid office) won't submit PII info on the reports.
