[Octm] Responses to One Math Concept question

Here are the responses that I received to the question:  "If your students could learn only one mathematics concept while  taking your class, what would you want that concept to be?" organized by grade level/class taught.

2nd Grade
	Problem solving

5th Grade
	Relationships between fractions, decimals, and percents.
	Powers of 10.  Using it as a spring board, place value, whole numbers, decimals, measurements, etc. all become 	grounded in a rigorous understanding of our base 10 system.
	Multi-stepped division and multiplication problems
	Proportional reasoning

6th Grade
	Problem solving

Middle School
		All of math is pattern.  Look for the pattern, use the patterns in math that help you build new understanding.  Look for the patterns in nature that relate to math.  Use pattern to understand history and English.  Use this concept to build reasoning, computational, problem solving, analysis and spatial skills.

8th Grade
	Integer operations

High School 9-12
	Steps of problem solving
	Solve an equation

Algebra I 
Solving equations and graphing linear equations
Solve multi-step equations

Algebra II
	Solve systems of equations or families of graphs

Geometry
	Problem solving using logic

University
	Develop concepts, skills, strategies and attitudes (including pleasure) in problem solving
	Formulate problems and go about solving them
