NASA Explorer Schools Program
Triangle Coalition member, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is offering an exciting new opportunity for schools to form a unique three-year partnership for professional development and student experiences. The NASA Explorer Schools program will provide its resources in science, mathematics, and technology to bring rich learning environments to educator/administrator teams, students, and their families. The program will offer stipends, grants, and a one-week summer workshop at a NASA Center for the educator/administrator school teams and special opportunities for students and their families. 2003 is a pilot year and will focus on grades 5-8. Applications are being accepted until April 4, 2003 for the first 50 NASA Explorer School Teams. Program objectives include:
- Increasing student interest and participation in science, mathematics, and technology;
- Increasing student knowledge about careers in science, mathematics, and technology;
- Increasing student ability to apply science, mathematics, and technology concepts;
- Increasing the active participation and professional growth of educators in science, mathematics, and technology;
- Increasing family involvement in student learning; and
- Increasing the academic assistance for and technology use by educators in schools with high populations of underserved students.
