[Octm] For HS teachers or parents of HS students

October 25th is an ACT national testing date.   I encourage all HS
teachers to incorporate some sort of practice test and review into one
of the days or part of the day next week leading up to the test.   
Some suggestions:
*	Give a practice test in class and going over the answers and
common mistakes (may need to have students answer every other question
in order to have time to go over the answers and common mistakes in one
class period.   I recommend every other problem in order to get to the
ones at the end.)
*	Go over some key formulas/concepts (area, Pythagorean theorem,
special right triangles, similar triangles, exponents, square root
equations, absolute value equations, logs, trig functions, to name a
few)
*	Say a special reminder on Friday to students to get some sleep,
answer all the questions, take a calculator, and work hard until the
very end - they wouldn't want to hurt the composite score because they
slacked up during the last test (science reasoning).
*	Incorporate a problem of the day at the beginning of class which
could be an ACT problem.

Even if not all your students are taking the ACT on the 25th, it
wouldn't hurt to take some time to give all your students this
experience.  You should be able to locate sample test booklets in the
counselor's office.  Your school administrator or counselor may also
have ACTive Prep, ACT software, with sample tests or go to www.act.org.


The next national testing date is December 13th and I will try to send
another reminder before then.
