Thanks Diane.  We have some groups here on campus who are wanting to get more specific on the gender/sex question (ie LGBTQ info, and on the race codes for Black/African American they are wanting to specifically ask more detail where they are from.

If discussing a smaller group of people, I believe that this would raise confidentiality issues.

For me, the real question is whether we are collecting that data and, if not, whether we have the capability to collect that data.  For instance, for various reasons, I am asked about twice a year to identify single parents.  However, we do not directly ask that question on applications.  So, we have to infer such information from the data, such as FAFSA data.

Good morning, Diane.  RSU also asks for tribal identification.  Further, if a student selects 2 or more races, we ask which races.  In this way we know that 85% of our students who select 2 or more races are Native American plus one other race, and nearly 30% of our students are Native American.  This information helps us know what other questions we should be asking ourselves and informs opportunities for our university to pursue.

UCO collects race/ethnicity data via checkboxes (student can check all that apply) and we also collect tribal information/tribal ancestry. It is worth noting that our data warehouse then coalesces all of the race/ethnicity information into the various “buckets” that IPEDS requires for its reporting.

My name is James Hunt, and I serve as the Member-at-Large for Membership & Awards for the Southern Association for Institutional Research (SAIR). I am reaching out to you as a most recent point of contact SAIR has on record for an affiliated organization in the southern region. As you probably know, SAIR is hosting its annual conference virtually this year. The conference will begin on Tuesday, September 29, with sessions and programming continuing through Friday, October 2.

In light of the travel and budget restrictions we are all facing and yet recognizing that now, more than ever, institutional research, planning, and assessment are of incredible importance to our institutions, SAIR decided to provide this year's virtual conference at the low price point of $25. Registration also includes one year of membership in SAIR. SAIR volunteers have worked hard to plan a meaningful experience for conference participants and are pleased to offer a number of concurrent sessions and workshops led by professionals across the region. Reminder about the SAIR 2020 virtual conference, coming up next week! Attached is a list of session topics (at least, I hope it will be attached - if it gets stripped I'll find another way to share it), including tracks for IR, leadership, assessment, etc.

Conference is next week, 9/29 to 10/2 (although "core" part of conference is 9/30-10/1).

The registration fee is only $25.00, and you have the option to pay by check (due by November)! Head over to https://cvent.me/ebBdab to register.

Saw this right after I hit "send" on another SAIR message! And I also see the Excel file I tried to attach was scrubbed. You can also access it here:

Colleagues,

My name is James Hunt, and I serve as the Member-at-Large for Membership & Awards for the Southern Association for Institutional Research (SAIR). I am reaching out to you as a most recent point of contact SAIR has on record for an affiliated organization in the southern region. As you probably know, SAIR is hosting its annual conference virtually this year. The conference will begin on Tuesday, September 29, with sessions and programming continuing through Friday, October 2.

In light of the travel and budget restrictions we are all facing and yet recognizing that now, more than ever, institutional research, planning, and assessment are of incredible importance to our institutions, SAIR decided to provide this year's virtual conference at the low price point of $25. Registration also includes one year of membership in SAIR. SAIR volunteers have worked hard to plan a meaningful experience for conference participants and are pleased to offer a number of concurrent sessions and workshops led by professionals across the region. I have attached the tentative conference schedule that provides more details on sessions as well as lists times for any state or affiliated organization meetings that are taking place.
