Ordering PreACT for 10th Grade Students in Oklahoma

The ordering window for the 10th-grade PreACT, funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, opens today, August 1st. You will receive an email from ACT containing announcements and links with helpful information regarding the PreACT.
This is a direct link to order: https://readiness.act.org/

Important Reminders When Ordering:

  *   Program Selection: Choose "OK State Regents for Higher Ed Fall 2024 - Grade 10 only." Selecting the wrong program will result in your district being billed.
  *   Order Quantity: Only order for the number of sophomores you have. ACT will calculate an overage, so you do not need to order extra.
  *   Accommodations: Determine if any students require accommodations such as read-aloud, Braille, human reader (Reader's Script), or large print.
  *   Shipping Address: Use a physical address, not a PO Box, as FedEx does not deliver to PO Boxes.
  *   Shipping Options: Do not select priority or overnight shipping to avoid additional charges.
  *   Order Confirmation: Ensure you click "...Terms and Conditions..." and "Place Order" at the end of the ordering process. You will get a confirmation number and will receive a confirmation email when you order correctly, these are two separate things.
  *   For Public and Private Schools: The PreACT is available for all public and private schools.
  *   Separate Orders for PreACT 8/9: If ordering the 8/9 PreACT, place a separate order to ensure correct program and billing information.

Post-Order Tips:

  *   Inventory Check: When your order arrives, promptly open the box to perform a quick inventory check. Answer documents are shipped separately; do not discard the answer document box. You will use it to return the documents to ACT for scoring.
  *   Track Returns: Before sending the answer documents back, take a picture of your tracking number.

The PreACT provides valuable information, starting with the pre-administration section and continuing through the assessment, helping guide your students, parents, and staff to prepare for college readiness.

College App Week 2024

College Application Week 2024 will be here before you know it (September 23-27), so it's time to enroll your high school for this significant event.  If that week doesn't work for you, make sure to plan your College App Week (CAW) for any week September through November 2024. If you're not able to fit a whole week into your school calendar, use only the number of days needed to meet the objective of CAW-to give every senior an opportunity to submit at least one college application at your school while there are staff and volunteers standing by to provide assistance. Last year, over 5,000 high school seniors completed online college applications during their CAW.

Visit OKCollegeAppWeek.org<https://www.ocap.org/caw/> to take advantage of all of the free resources available to Students, Event Coordinators and Volunteers. You are not required to use any of these materials, but they may give you some ideas of your own. You can register your high school, library or community center by completing this registration form<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CAW2024Reg>. You can also register for College App Week 2024 while you're on the home page at OKCollegeAppWeek.org<https://www.ocap.org/caw/>; just click the 'Register Now' button to complete a short survey. Many of you received the email below, but I have been asked by ACT to send it out on our OKEPAS listserv also. If you have any questions about the Fall ACT test please reach out to Tabitha Zurovetz, Oklahoma’s ACT Account Executive. Her contact information is at the bottom of the email.

I wanted to share some exciting news. The OKSDE (Oklahoma State Department of Education) is offering the ACT without writing for senior retakes. This is a first come first serve basis and I expect this to fill up quickly. You should be receiving communication emails from OKSDE (stating: Oklahoma Fall State Testing) regarding ordering information. You will need to pay close attention to your drop down when uploading your seniors in PANext.  This is ONLY for seniors. I will provide some additional information below to help answer questions you may have.

The Oklahoma State Regents would like to share a few legislative changes that will impact scholarships and grants this upcoming academic year. You can find contact information for follow-up questions at each of the links provided.

Oklahoma Access and Achievement Scholarship
NEW SCHOLARSHIP! During the 2024 session, the Oklahoma Legislature approved HB 3792 creating the Oklahoma Access and Achievement Program. The Oklahoma Access and Achievement Scholarship will provide educational benefits to Oklahoma residents with intellectual disabilities enrolled in comprehensive transition and postsecondary (CTP) programs approved by the U.S. Department of Education. The amount of the award will be equivalent to resident tuition at institutions in the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education and Oklahoma Career Technology Education institutions. There are currently three qualifying CTP programs in Oklahoma:

·         Sooner Works at the University of Oklahoma<https://www.ou.edu/education/centers-and-partnerships/zarrow/sooner-works>

Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG)
In the 2024 legislative session both Senate Bills 11 and 1624 were approved to expand OTAG eligibility. SB 1624 expands OTAG eligibility to students with intellectual disabilities enrolled in CTP programs approved by the U.S. Department of Education. SB 11 allows incarcerated individuals enrolled in a Prison Education Program and within five years of being released to be eligible for OTAG.

Oklahoma’s Promise
In the 2024 legislative session both Senate Bills 1302 and 1328 were approved and made a few key changes to the scholarship.

New high school curriculum requirements:
This bill aligned the Oklahoma’s Promise curriculum requirements to the high school curricular college admission requirements. To see the new curriculum requirements click here: https://okpromise.org/required-courses.shtml

Expanding the application window for students placed in DHS custody:
Senate Bill 1302 also expanded the application window for certain students in DHS custody. Students placed into DHS custody during the eighth, ninth, 10th or 11th grade who were unable to enroll in the program may enroll prior to their official date of high school graduation. They will need to establish financial need and meet all other Oklahoma’s Promise eligibility requirements to receive the scholarship. All other students must apply for the program in their eighth, ninth, tenth, or eleventh grade years.

Adding a Core Diploma Track for Career Technology Students
Senate Bill 1328 creates a second academic eligibility track for students who choose to use the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship at a public career technology center only. These students must complete the requirements for the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Core Diploma. For the students on this path, the scholarship will cover at least a portion of tuition for certain programs that meet the requirements to be eligible for federal financial aid offered at an Oklahoma public technology center. The scholarship is only available to be used at career technology centers and is not transferable to a college or university. They must still meet all other eligibility requirements, including financial eligibility, to qualify for Oklahoma’s Promise.

I wanted to share some exciting news. The OKSDE (Oklahoma State Department of Education) is offering the ACT without writing for senior retakes. This is a first come first serve basis and I expect this to fill up quickly. Communication emails have been sent from OKSDE (stating: Oklahoma Fall 2024) regarding enrollment information. The Sooner Job ChalleNGe Program (SJC) is a new start up follow on program to the Thunderbird Challenge Program (Oklahoma National Guard Youth ChallenNGe) that starts in January 2025. to obtain alternative certification through the State Dept. of Education required
