[Okgrants] Indirect cost on local & private grant

For us, it depends on what the funds will be used for and also on discussion with the private funder, as sometimes they will advise one way or another.  A lot of times we forego IDCs and sometimes we waive a portion (requesting less than normal), but rarely do we budget for/request our full amount from private sources.

Hello –

We are applying for a private grant. This is the first private grant I have been involved in the proposal. I do not see any restrictions on indirect cost, in the grant proposal guidelines. So I’d like to request indirect cost or something in the proposal budget. Our existing private and local grants do not have indirect cost in the budget. I do not see anything in the files stating if the grantor disallowed indirect cost. Additionally, there’s not a university policy on this. So I come to you all to see what you all do.

What is your university practice on charging indirect cost to local or private grants?
