Subject: for biochemists/molecular biologists

TO: Biochemists/molecular biologists who have designed innovative labs

From: Rod Boyer, Hope College and Adele Wolfson, Wellesley College

We wish to inform you of a special feature on biochemistry laboratory
experiments that was initiated in the January/February, 2009 issue of
the
journal, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education (BAMBED). In this
issue, four outstanding manuscripts describing innovative lab activities
were selected for publication in the first Innovation in the BMB
Laboratory Feature.

Plans are now being made to continue the feature in 2009-2010. For the
next series, we seek manuscripts that describe lab experiments
illustrating modern topics and active-learning styles--expository
instruction, inquiry-based instruction, discovery-based instruction,
problem-based instruction, project-based instruction, research-based
instruction, etc. The projects may be designed for a single lab session,
several lab sessions, or 1-2 semester courses. We have a preference for
topics and teaching methods that are current, but have not yet received
wide coverage in educational journals and lab manuals. Our plan is to
publish 4-5 of these manuscripts in BAMBED in early 2010. A manuscript
for
this special issue should be submitted by about June/July 2009. For
publication in early 2010, we need to have the manuscript in final form
by
early fall, 2009.

If you are interested in writing such a manuscript or have ideas for
topics, please contact either Rod or Adele for more information. The
goal
of the project is to provide outstanding, unique and workable lab
activities for our readers and for our students.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you.
