Dear CUR Colleagues,

The College of New Jersey is searching for a faculty position in Physics
to also serve as Department Chair. This is a great opportunity for
teacher-scholars who value undergraduate research. We would greatly
appreciate it if you would bring the position to the attention of
individuals who might be interested.

Thank you.

Jeff

Department Chair and SENIOR Faculty Position

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ)
invites outstanding applicants for a tenure-line Associate Professor or
Professor to serve as Department Chair for an initial three-year term,
starting August 2009. Teaching and research are mutually supportive
activities at TCNJ. Candidates should be strongly committed to the
teacher-scholar model in a primarily undergraduate, residential
institution and to maintaining both high quality teaching and an active
and productive research program involving highly motivated
undergraduates. Faculty members also serve as academic advisors and
have service responsibilities within the College. A research
laboratory and competitive start-up funds will be provided. The Physics
Department is housed in a modern science complex (opened Fall 2002) that
offers state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and
instrumentation. For further information about our program, please
visit: http://www.tcnj.edu/~physics/ <http://www.tcnj.edu/~physics/> .

We seek a broadly trained physicist who also has the potential to
collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly
efforts within the School of Science and at the College. The specific
research area is open, but we have a strong preference for a candidate
who uses an experimental approach in her/his scholarly program.
Requirements for the position and personal attributes desired in the new
Chair and faculty member include:

* A Ph.D. in physics,

* A strong record as an accomplished teacher-scholar, including
demonstrated success in the classroom/laboratory, in mentoring
undergraduate research students, and in scholarly outcomes,

* A record of relevant leadership experience, with a leadership style
that is open, consultative, and collaborative, and

* Ability to communicate effectively, listen carefully, and build
consensus through good will and camaraderie.

TCNJ is a highly selective, public institution that has earned
national recognition for its commitment to excellence. TCNJ emphasizes
the residential experience for its 5,900 undergraduate students, who
benefit from a 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average class
size of only 20 students. TCNJ is one of only five public institutions
included on Barron's Profiles of American Colleges list of the 75 "most
competitive" colleges and universities in the United States, and of
those five, TCNJ is the only primarily undergraduate institution
included. TCNJ's campus encompasses 289 beautiful tree-lined acres in
suburban Ewing, NJ, which is located between Trenton and Princeton in
the historic Delaware Valley, and is convenient to Philadelphia, New
York, the Jersey shore, and the Pocono Mountains.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue
until the position is filled. To apply, candidates should send a letter
of application; current curriculum vitae; statement of leadership
philosophy; statement of teaching philosophy; statement of research
interests and goals; all graduate and undergraduate transcripts; and
list of names, email and postal addresses, and phone numbers of three
references.  Please send to: Search Committee; Department of Physics;
The College of New Jersey; PO Box 7718; Ewing, NJ 08628-0718. E-mail:
physics at tcnj.edu <mailto:physics at tcnj.edu> . Electronic submission of
application material is strongly encouraged.

To enrich education through diversity, TCNJ is an Affirmative Action
/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of underrepresented
groups are encouraged to apply.
