IT Analyst II - Petascale Storage Administrator
University of Oklahoma Information Technology, Norman campus
Deadline: Open until filled

Submit application materials at:

*** Job Function ***

This Petascale Storage Administrator will be a key member of a
team focused on implementation and support of emerging large scale
storage systems across multiple vendor and media platforms in an
existing environment. This includes not only (a) large scale,
modular storage array products for both disk and tape, both
hardware and software, but also (b) storage networking
technologies such as Fiber Channel and/or 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Job Duties will include:

* Working with members of a team of IT professionals to deploy,
maintain, and possibly acquire the institution's first and
subsequent petascale (multimillion GB) storage systems for bulk
archiving of research datasets, with usage and access patterns
substantially different from those typically encountered in
enterprise contexts.

For example, a sizable fraction of the usage will be of the
"Write Once, Read Seldom if Ever" variety, and most file sizes
and transactions will be multi-GB.

* Interacting regularly with customers, primarily researchers and
educators, to facilitate not only specific usage paradigms but
also to educate and train stakeholders with respect to this
category of storage, and to help match customers to the best
storage tier based on data size, usage patterns, etc.

* Deploying, administering and maintaining multiple large scale
storage systems, including vendor and/or third party storage
software.

* Proactive daily monitoring and health checks of storage
subsystems and storage networking infrastructure.

* Tuning storage components to ensure optimal reliability,
performance and customer amenity.

* Participating in the planning, testing, and implementation of
data disaster recovery solutions.

* Maintaining and/or creating documentation in support of large
scale storage array infrastructure.

*** Required Education and Experience ***

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or
related field OR an equivalent combination of education/job-related
experience.

*** Department Preferences ***

* Advanced knowledge and understanding of the LTO tape standard
and related issues.

* Knowledge of and skills with storage administration under Linux.

* Knowledge of and skills with Hierarchical Storage Management
systems.

* Ability to work directly in person with customers who are
researchers and/or educators.

* Ability to manage storage pools and volumes with LUN
masking/security.

*** Special Indications ***

Hiring contingent upon background check.

*** Special Instructions to Applicants ***

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
without the need for employer sponsorship.
