Dear Linda,

 

Earlier this month the CUR Executive Board met for the mid-year meeting
and one of the topics on the agenda was the 2014 CUR National
Conference. The E-Board is interested in creating more visibility for
undergraduate research and CUR and believes that the national conference
is a vehicle for doing that. This effort includes increasing the
attendance at the conference, particularly by people who may not be
members of CUR.  

Over the years the CUR E-Board and CUR Councilors have discussed both
the scheduling of the national conference in June and the location of
the conference on a college campus. Some councilors have suggested that
late June is a difficult time for the conference because they are
engaged in scholarly and/or creative activity, often in collaboration
with students.  June is also the end of the budget year and travel funds
may be depleted.  Others have suggested that a conference at a hotel in
a desirable location may attract more attendees.  The Executive board
understands that making changes in either the time of the conference or
the venue is an important decision and can mean a change in some aspects
of the conference that are dear to CUR members. Therefore, we ask for
your input to inform our planning.
