Subject: [ODLA] INVITATION LETTER TO PROSPECTIVE PANELIST
INVITATION LETTER TO PROSPECTIVE PANELIST
Dear Colleague,
I am a doctoral learner at Capella University with a specialization in
Instructional Design for Online Learning. My dissertation will identify
techniques, which lend themselves to better instructional design
strategies for large Web-based classes.
I am seeking instructional designers who develop large classes in a
Web-based environment to participate in a three-round modified Delphi
study. Participants will be expected to providewritten response to
questions relevant to the research study. It is anticipated that there
will be three rounds of the survey instrument, although an additional
round may be warranted. Participants are given one week to provide
responses in each round.
Participation is voluntary and you are able to stop participation at
any time, without penalty. All participant documentation will be held in
strict confidence.
Participants should be instructional designers. Participants will be
recruited who designed for more than fifty students in one section or
for a whole course at any given time. Participant's selection is based
on the following.
? Have experience designing at least two Web-based courses.
If you do not fit these criteria, please pass this along to a colleague
who matches these criteria.
Please indicate your interest by completing the brief Profile Form,
which can be accessed at Profile form The online form will ask you a few
brief questions and won't take more than 5 minutes. Once all
participants are selected for this research project, detailed
instructions will be sent to you. If you have any questions about the
study, please contact me at sharon.baddersresearch at yahoo.com
Below is an excerpt about the significance of the study:
There have been hundreds of studies, which have measured the impact of
class size on student learning. Class size research is almost
non-existent in distance education compared to what one would find of
all the empirical studies found. The size of classes influence all the
variables associated with distance education. Thank you, in advance,
for your consideration of this research project.
Sincerely,
Sharon Badders
