CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The 4th Annual Promoting Undergraduate Research Conference
for Faculty, Staff and Administrators
Sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education

April 19, 2013 (8:30 am to 4:30 pm)
Presbyterian Health Foundation Conference Center
655 Research Parkway OKC

Taking Ownership of the Research Experience:
Presenting and Publishing Undergraduate Research

Research and creative activities provide the critical opportunity for students to take ownership of their education, facilitating a journey of self-discovery that bridges the gap between knowledge and experience. This year’s conference will focus on the final step in this process—the presentation and publication of undergraduate research.

The conference will be organized into three panel presentations; please consider joining the Presenting Undergraduate Research or Publishing Undergraduate Research panels by proposing a brief presentation (approximately 15-20 minutes) aligned with the respective themes identified below:

1. Undergraduate Researchers – The conference steering committee has identified undergraduates representing all tiers of higher education who will share their perspectives on presenting and publishing their research. We are not seeking additional students for this panel.

2. Presenting Undergraduate Research: If you have experience organizing presentation opportunities—e.g. research symposia—or have helped students prepare research presentations, please consider joining this panel to share your insight. We are looking for novel and/or effective approaches designed to encourage students to present their research in a wide variety of contexts.

3. Publishing Undergraduate Research: If you have co-authored research with undergraduates or assisted students in the preparation of their own publications, please consider joining this panel to share your insight. We are looking for novel and/or effective approaches designed to encourage students to publish their research in a wide variety of contexts.

Selection Criteria – The Steering Committee will select proposals considering the broadest representation of undergraduate research models from across the state. We aim to include a wide range of disciplines from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and arts. We are not looking for proposals about individual students’ research projects.
Presentation at the Promoting Undergraduate Research Conference – Panels will be approximately 120 minutes in length with part of the time set aside for questions and dialogue. Presentations may include PowerPoint slides for visual support of major concepts and findings. Projectors and computers will be provided. Each panelist will have approximately 15-30 minutes for their presentation depending on the number of panelists selected for each panel.
