Dear Colleagues:

Please invite your undergraduate students to apply to the UNLV REU Site in Environmental Microbiology<http://faculty.unlv.edu/microreu/> (http://faculty.unlv.edu/microreu/).

Students will collaborate with faculty mentors in developing and carrying out hypothesis-based projects on microorganisms from diverse habitats such as hot springs, the deep terrestrial subsurface, hypersaline lakes, arid soils, and ephemeral water sources. Students may also choose to explore the mechanisms of magnetotaxis, sporulation, soil-forming processes, microbial adaptation to stressful and non-host environments, or the dynamics between primary producers and consumers.

- 10 week program: May 26 to August 2, 2013
- $5,000 stipend plus housing and travel support
- Application deadline: Friday Feb 15, 2013

Undergraduates from institutions where research opportunities in STEM disciplines are limited, including two-year colleges are strongly encouraged to apply.
