JOB DESCRIPTION/JOB SPECIFICATION

Job Title: Proposal Developer & Grants Writer Job Status: Exempt Job Summary: Responsible for the development and writing of proposals, applications, agreements and contracts for the university to secure extramural funding from federal, state and private agencies and to create opportunities for sustained revenue sources.
Duties and Responsibilities: Facilitates, reviews, and edits grant proposals; conducts library and electronic research; compiles data; inputs and retrieves data via computer. Conducts research on potential funding sources; maintains contact with external agencies. Works closely with faculty and staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals; interacts with campus constituencies involved in grant-funding activities; serves as departmental liaison to University grants administration. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; may collaborate with various internal departments. May coordinate project activities; prepares and processes letters and correspondence, presentation materials, and manuscripts; maintains funding opportunity databases, activity tracking system, and related confidential files.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Principal Contact: Community organizations, government agencies, and Langston University faculty and staff Competency/Position Requirements:
Demonstrated successful grant writing experience for federal and state agencies, resulting in substantial funding; Substantial experience working with federal funding agencies; Excellent demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal skills including copy-writing and editing ; Must be PC literate especially in using software such as Word, Excel and Access database in a Windows environment ; Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; Ability to operate computers and utilize applicable software packages; Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and a strong communicator and team player. Must be able to travel if needed.
Required Education and /or Experience:
Bachelor's degree required/Masters degree preferred with minimum of two years experience with grant writing. Experience as a proposal reviewer for federal and state agencies is desired but not required.
