University of Central Florida- NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Programs – Summer 2017

Preparing the Next Generation of Scholars through Community Geographic Information Systems and Citizen Science in Orlando and Belize
Research in Belize for 5 weeks!  We emphasize community geography, community GIS, and citizen science through mixed methods, including sketch mapping, mobile mapping applications, focus groups, in-depth interviews, GIS, and spatial analysis.

×         Program dates: June 19 - August 4

×         Benefits: $3500 research stipend, meal allowance and housing in Belize and Orlando, travel support to/from the REU Site, up to $750 for post-REU conference travel, and 2 research methods books.

Internet of Things
This program will train students in a 10-week summer program in security, privacy, hardware design, data analytics, healthcare simulations, and social computing topics. Student activities include weekly workshops and seminars, preparation of a research poster for presentation, hands-on training with IoT devices, and socials.

Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnology
REU students will spend 10 weeks in a highly collaborative environment and learn aspects of material science engineering, bioengineering, biophotonics, biochemistry, and clinical translation. Research applications include Engineering of MEMs devices, Body-on-a-chip systems, Nanofibers for tissue engineering, Smart wound healing patches, and Nanomanufacturing of tunable plasmonic sensors.
