From Elisa.Jaden at SREB.org Mon Jan 13 12:18:52 2020 From: Elisa.Jaden at SREB.org (Elisa Jaden) Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2020 18:18:52 +0000 Subject: [S-SARA] LAST OPPORTUNITY FOR WCET/SAN MEMBERS Message-ID: Good afternoon S-SARA Coordinators, For those of you who are WCET/SAN members, this is the last opportunity to earn the WCET/SAN State Authorization Basics Compliance Management Certificate. SAN members may register for the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of the concepts and skills of basic out-of-state activity compliance, so if you know of institutions in your state that are also SAN members, please share this with them. Registration for cohort #5, which will be the final assessment, is now open. Please pay special attention upon your review of the information and registration instructions to understand the parameters of the assessment/certificate and steps to register. Please note that this is a WCET/SAN project without endorsement from other organizations. As with previous cohorts, registration for cohort #5 will accommodate 50 new candidates. Based on the last two cohorts, interest has peaked and the subscription to the testing tool is coming to an end. This is the last cohort. This is a 30-question, multiple choice assessment for which members must achieve an 80% to earn the certificate. The assessment is hosted by ExamBuilder.com and is open note/internet with no time limitations. The 50 members selected for cohort #5 will receive an email with instructions, suggested support materials to review and keep available, and the deadline date for which the assessment must be completed (we plan the assessment to be open for two weeks). Please review your calendar to determine whether you are available from February 3, 2020 to complete the assessment. If it is questionable whether you can complete the assessment during this time, please do not register as it may prevent someone with availability from participating as our subscription is for 50 candidates only. Again, assessment/certificate information and registration instructions are available here! Please read the information carefully before you register! Registration will remain open until we receive 50 registrations or January 27, 2020, whichever occurs first. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl or Dan at WCET/SAN. I want to kick 2020 off with a question for my very knowledgeable S-SARA Colleagues: The SARA manual says that institutions must be accredited by an accreditor recognized by the USDE and whose scope of recognition, as specified by USDE, includes Distance Education. My question is this: Does anyone require institutions to provide evidence that their accreditor has approved them to offer distance education, or do you just verify that the accreditor has that authority as specified by the USDE? I would also reference the C-RAC guidelines, if an institution agrees to follow the C-RAC guidelines (which a SARA institution has to do, #4 on application) then I would strongly suggest that they also show that they have met the requirements (initially) to be allowed to deliver DE according to their Accrediting body. As far as renewal goes, I would reference Item 6 on the form, if a negative change to the accreditation status has occurred then it should be reported, in this case if an institution was to loose approval for DE then this would need to be reported. That's my simple path to understanding the process. Hope this helps. Robert Keown (USAF Ret.)
