Subject: Webinar about the #RealCollege survey opportunity
All,
If you are able, please help me spread the word to SHEEOs and postsecondary institution leaders about the upcoming webinar<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sreb.org%2Fwebinar%2Frealcollege-survey&data=02%7C01%7CWanda.Barker%40sreb.org%7C903bfcc84d7348f3690f08d813ef5972%7Ceb20950b168c497a98452b099844f3ef%7C0%7C0%7C637281265998538585&sdata=tFgPqumVpfgP9lhpAhO%2BEtFSQUW%2FMBcruFxlSN6iCxQ%3D&reserved=0> on the national #RealCollege survey<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhope4college.com%2Frealcollege-survey-2020%2F%23intro&data=02%7C01%7CWanda.Barker%40sreb.org%7C903bfcc84d7348f3690f08d813ef5972%7Ceb20950b168c497a98452b099844f3ef%7C0%7C0%7C637281265998548579&sdata=Ro5EllMlkFIt4fvBEgzhYz%2B%2BnolIIkoSaiPWxtfuraw%3D&reserved=0>, which assesses students' level of food and housing security. Results can be broken down for individual institutions as well as state systems of higher education. Results are highly informative and can be used to address the problem to help more students stay enrolled and complete a postsecondary credential.
Thank you!

Subject: #RealCollege survey
Stevie,
In your next meeting with Stephen and the SREB SHEEOs, I would appreciate it if you could mention the #RealCollege survey and invite anyone interested to attend an upcoming webinar about the survey led by the Hope Center staff. Student homelessness and food insecurity was already a growing crisis before coronavirus, but the pandemic is making the situation even worse.
The #RealCollege<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Frealcollege.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7CWanda.Barker%40sreb.org%7C903bfcc84d7348f3690f08d813ef5972%7Ceb20950b168c497a98452b099844f3ef%7C0%7C0%7C637281265998548579&sdata=gieGzrphWfGUUUgqolCHtJybg2NmNI7w6a21y%2FfESYs%3D&reserved=0> survey is the nation's largest annual assessment of access to affordable food and housing among college students. Results can be broken down by state and institution, which state systems and individual colleges can use to better understand the degree of housing and food insecurity among their own students, which can help in designing appropriate supports for their students need.
The 2018 national report<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhope4college.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2019%2F04%2FHOPE_realcollege_National_report_digital.pdf&data=02%7C01%7CWanda.Barker%40sreb.org%7C903bfcc84d7348f3690f08d813ef5972%7Ceb20950b168c497a98452b099844f3ef%7C0%7C0%7C637281265998558578&sdata=YyjFg%2FCNPBSxawkM2961fVqKLQYQ%2BKCOpBAPVckdObE%3D&reserved=0> included 86,000 students from 123 two- and four-year institutions across the United States. Results found that:
* 45% of respondents were food insecure in the prior 30 days
* 56% of respondents were housing insecure in the previous year
* 17% of respondents were homeless in the previous year.
Recommendations included the following:
* Appoint a Director of Student Wellness and Basic Needs.
* Engage community organizations and the private sector in proactive support.
* Develop and expand an emergency aid program.
There is a small fee to participate in the survey, but the Hope Center is a nonprofit organization, so funds are only used to recoup costs. If a college or university cannot afford to pay for the survey, there is a scholarship option that is available to them. State systems and consortia of institutions within a state can receive a bulk discount by working together.
Interested institutions and state systems can contact Liz Looker<mailto:%20lizlooker at temple.edu> at the Hope Center<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhope4college.com%2F&data=02%7C01%7CWanda.Barker%40sreb.org%7C903bfcc84d7348f3690f08d813ef5972%7Ceb20950b168c497a98452b099844f3ef%7C0%7C0%7C637281265998558578&sdata=769Q08zjIUb4ucqWx1Qa4N%2FseeSwcKfab5pnAa5Vp4o%3D&reserved=0> or me at 404-879-5595 or aliceanne.bailey at sreb.org<mailto:aliceanne.bailey at sreb.org>
