From asiddiqui at usao.edu Thu Aug 8 20:59:15 2019 From: asiddiqui at usao.edu (Adeel Siddiqui) Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2019 01:59:15 +0000 Subject: [USAO-Robertson] How to connect to the new WiFi network on campus Message-ID: As of today, we have converted the following buildings on campus to the new WiFi network: * Lawson Hall * Sparks Hall * Robertson Hall * Student Center * Fieldhouse * Nash Library * Alumni House Below are the instructions for connecting to the new WiFi network in the aforementioned buildings. These instructions will soon also apply to the rest of campus as well: Please connect to the "USAO-Drovers" WiFi network. The initial password is "usaostudent" (without the quotes). Once you enter that, it will automatically bring up a webpage asking you to enter your OneLogin credentials (NOTE: the username is the first part of your email address, without the @usao.edu). This will allow you to stay connected to the USAO-Drovers WiFi network for 6 months at a time (after which you just go through the same process again). The "USAO-Drovers" WiFi network is meant for all employees and students to connect to from their personal mobile devices. You may have noticed that there is also a "USAO-Guest" WiFi network that you can connect to. Technically, anyone (including employees and students) can connect to it; but it's specifically meant for guests to the campus, and does not require using OneLogin credentials. There is no initial password required to connect to this network as it will automatically bring up a webpage upon connection which requires entering any email address (USAO or otherwise) to which a unique temporary password will be emailed to (which can then be used to connect to the Guest WiFi network). HOWEVER, the Guest WiFi network only allows you to stay connected for one day at a time (i.e. requires re-connecting every 24 hours). So obviously, the "USAO-Drovers" WiFi network is the one you want to connect to, but it does require you to know your OneLogin credentials (which you should know by now if you are enrolled at USAO, and are checking this email at your USAO email account 😊). However, if you find out that someone need help accessing their OneLogin account, and/or resetting their password, then please have them send an email (from their personal email account) to ithelpdesk at usao.edu to open a tech-support ticket. If you have any issues connecting to the new WiFi network, please send an email to ithelpdesk at usao.edu to open a tech-support ticket. Thank you! Such devices are typically referred to as IoT devices (Internet of Things), and may even be called headless IoT devices if they don't include a GUI/screen to view their input directly. IoT devices may include: * Smart TVs * Steaming appliances (e.g. Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku) * Game consoles (e.g. PlayStation, XBox, Nintendo) * Smart Assistants (e.g. Amazon Alexa, Apple Home) So what's the problem? IoT devices typically only have a very basic input for connecting to WiFi/wired networks. They usually don't have a method to log in to a WiFi server or accept authentication credentials (other than just a password). And while some smart TVs may include a simple built-in browser, that browser almost certainly doesn't have a mechanism (like smartphones/tablets/laptops do) to pass on secondary credentials to a WiFi server. SOLUTION: We are working with our wireless equipment vendor to provide options for automatically connecting IoT devices to our WiFi network without entering login credentials (other than perhaps an initial password). We will hopefully have this system in place by next week. Stay tuned! Water in sinks, showers, washing machines, etc. is discolored. We are unsure when the issue will be resolved, but until then, washing machines are to be used at your own risk-it's possible the water could stain clothes. I hope everyone had a good summer! Now that the fall semester is back in full swing I wanted to remind everyone of the mailroom rules and policies: * All mailroom business is handled through Student Services on the 3rd Floor of the Student Center. This includes: * Checking out mailboxes * Picking up USPS packages * Returning/picking up mail keys * If you lose your mail key, there will be a $15 charge placed on your bill * I do not hold any flat mail (paper mail, magazines, bills, etc) for any one that does not have a mailbox checked out. If you are expecting something important please be sure to stop by Student Services and check out a mailbox. * The mailroom only handles USPS packages. Anything delivered by FedEx or UPS will be delivered to the Maintenance Plant across Grand from the soccer fields. You can contact Danielle McAlister, (405)574-1233 for more information. * Any USPS packages that are too large for your mailbox will be brought to Student Services. You will receive an email from Student Services when your package is ready to be picked up. * Some package shippers, Amazon in particular, will show the package delivered when it has reached the Chickasha Post Office. This does not mean that the package has arrived at the university. It is always best to wait for an email from Student Services or Danielle McAlister. * You must have a mailbox checked out AND have your Student ID with you to pick up a package! * Package pickup is during regular business hours only! 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. * If you need to pick up a time sensitive package (medicine, etc) please feel free to contact me via email (rsnider at usao.edu) or at (405)574-1215 to arrange a pick up outside of business hours.
