Campus Community Notification

USAO Security received a report of Break-in on Campus
Early this morning, an incident occurred at the Lawson apartments and we wanted to make the campus community aware.  We are currently working with the Chickasha Police Department in resolving this matter.
Date and Time of Incident:  February 24, 2019,  3:17am
Type of Report: Break-in
Location/address:  Lawson Court Apartments, 1727 W, Alabama, Chickasha, OK 73018
Incident information:
USAO Security received a report from a resident of the Lawson Apartments on February 24, 2019 of a break-in in the Shackelford building,   The break-in does not appear to be random. There may have been an involvement of a weapon.   The suspects are known but have not been arrested at this time.  No further information is available.  If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact USAO Security at 405-222-8066 or the Chickasha police department at (405) 222-6050.

Prevention information
Crime prevention and awareness, as well as consistent reporting, may be the strongest defenses against becoming the victim of a crime. While becoming a victim of crime is never the fault of the victim, the following list of practices may help safeguard individuals from becoming victims: Please report all suspicious activity. Please refer to the Annual Security Report for up to date crime statistics, security policies and programming, located on the USAO Security page.
Perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior. You can take specific actions to reduce your vulnerability:
*                     Residents should keep their apartment/room doors locked at all times even when in the room or when going down the hall for only a few minutes.
*                     Residents should not prop interior or exterior doors at any time, hold an outside door open for strangers or allow strangers to "piggyback" on their access card.
*                     If at any time you observe someone acting in a suspicious manner in your building or attempting to enter residences, please call Security at 405-222-8066 immediately. Suspicious behavior may include a stranger knocking on your door and asking an out-of-place question, such as "did you lose these keys," or making an excuse for being found in your room ("I was looking for ...").
*                     Residents should close their windows when leaving their rooms, even for short periods of time and should keep all property away from windows in order to prevent someone from reaching in and removing it.
*                     If you arrive home and it appears that entry has been made to your room, please do not enter. Call Security at 405-222-8066 from the safety of a neighbor's room/apartment.  . At no time should you enter the room, touch anything, or confront someone in the room or the building.

*                     Make sure you have your cell phone and it is fully charged before going out.

*                     Stay with a group and avoid deserted areas.

*                     Use the buddy system and watch out for each other.
