[USAO-Robertson] USAO Housing - Winter Tips

Hello everyone!

I know you have received multiple emails from me regarding the cold weather. Please understand how important it is to follow the instructions I have given. Below are more tips. We want you to be safe and we thank you for helping us keep the residence halls safe as well.


  *   Keep all windows and doors securely closed.
  *   Although campus dining services will have services available, consider stocking non-perishable food in your room.
  *   Report all maintenance issues as soon as possible: https://usao-gcgxy.formstack.com/forms/maintenance_requests


  *   Extreme cold can cause water pipes to freeze. You may want to store bottled water for emergency use. To help avoid frozen pipes:
*         Leave all water taps slightly open so they drip continuously.
*         Keep the indoor temperature warm.
*         When possible, keep cabinet doors open if they house pipes, particularly those that are adjacent to outside walls.

  *   Reminder - space heaters are not allowed in housing due to potential fire hazard.
  *   Do not crank up your thermostat to make your room warmer. Set it at 72 to keep it from overworking.
  *   To keep cold air from drafting in through windows, roll up towels and place them along the window sill.
  *   Lawson - Do not use your stove to heat your apartment.
