Attention Students:

The National Weather Service has issued the following severe (Thunder Storm/ or Tornado) WATCH for the area (Grady County) and a USAO Drover Alert is being sent making residents aware of the situation.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is issued when severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur. It only means they are possible.

Tornado Watch
A Tornado Watch is issued when severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur. It only means they are possible.

Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS)
is used in rare situations when long-lived, strong and violent tornadoes are possible. This enhanced wording may also accompany severe thunderstorm watches for intense convective wind storms (NWS.gov glossary).

USAO highly recommends that residents stay alert to the weather conditions by listening to local radio/television stations and that residents are aware of the closest severe weather shelter to their location. There are two on campus:

  * Basement of the Student Center (Station 82),
  * Basement of the Nash Library (Handicap Accessible)

Assistance for those with Disability Related Challenges
As the area is under a severe weather WATCH, those with disability related issues needing assistance to the handicap accessible USAO severe weather shelter located in the basement floor of the Nash Library (Southern Entrance), are encouraged to do so now by contacting (Security/Housing) through the following:

  *   (405) 222-8066
  *   security at usao.edu

If this severe weather watch is upgraded to a severe weather WARNING, those choosing to stay who later want to be moved, will be moved only if the weather permits.

A reminder to ALL STUDENTS, according to the National Weather Service once the city of Chickasha sirens sound, it is too late to seek protection at a remote location. Everyone is encouraged to seek protection where they are immediately by going to the lowest level, most interior room of their location.

If you have any questions, please contact the Housing office at housing at usao.edu or by calling (405) 574-1311.

Sincerely,

USAO Housing
