[Cobo] Third Annual OK Legal Issues Conference Notice

 The third Legal Issues in Higher Education Conference will be held Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Oklahoma Memorial Union on the University of Oklahoma campus. 

We are excited to announce that the keynote speaker is Michael A. Olivas, William B. Bates Distinguished Chair in Law and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance at the University of Houston.  Professor Olivas will present "The USA PATRIOT Act: When They Name Legislation after Something Patriotic, Duck for Cover."  OU-Tulsa President Ken Levit will also address the conference on the changes in Oklahoma higher education since 9/11.  We are also pleased to publicize that the Honorable Vicki Miles-LaGrange, Federal District Judge and the first African-American to sit on the bench in the Western District, will be the luncheon speaker.  

The day will also include three sets of concurrent sessions with three topics each.  These sessions will include the following topics: Student Privacy, Campus Discipline, Use of Race & Ethnicity, Employment Issues, Federal Hot Topics, Immunization of Students in the Dorms, and Sarbanes Oxley and higher education.  There is still time for you to comment on these topics or to suggest additional topics for the concurrent sessions by responding to Kara Rollins at kjrollins at ou.edu or Ned Bastow at nbastow at osrhe.edu.

 This one-day conference is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Oklahoma Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc. and the University of Oklahoma College of Continuing Education.  Co-sponsors include Wilcox & Jones and KPMG.
