Melissa sent this out last month.  We gave the SDE the dates that we had blocked for Summer Institute some time ago; however, you can see College Board has something scheduled the same week.

A counselor has asked if anyone knows or has attended any of these in the past and would like to shed some light on what it entails.  Please reply to this email if you have anything regarding these trainings.

Free School Counselor Training Available

The State Department of Education is offering free training for public school counselors.  The two National Office for School Counselor Advocacy (NOSCA) trainings being offered are:

NOSCA's Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling:  "A Transformative Process"  (June 24 and repeated June 26)
In this session, the school counselor will learn how to use the transformative process to promote equity in student outcomes when using the NOSCA Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling. The school counselor will learn to use the Eight Components publication as a tool to promote college and career readiness.

School Counselors Using  Data to Drive College and Career Readiness for All Students  (June 25 and repeated June 27)
In this session, school counselors will identify and analyze data to intentionally focus their practice so that all students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be college and career ready prior to exiting high school. Participants will use NOSCA's School Counselor's Guide Series: NOSCA's Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling to:

*         Support their school and district goals

*         Use data to develop concrete interventions customized to the needs of underserved student groups in their school

*         Deliver interventions system wide

The training will be held at the Wyndham Tulsa Hotel. If you want to attend two trainings, fill out two forms.)  This is open to public school counselors only.
