I am a first year counselor, but I thought I understood that if they took Algebra I in 8th grade it could not be repeated in high school for Math credit it should only be given elective credit and they would therefore need an additional 3 math credits above Algebra I...

Kingfisher counts it as a part of their HS GPA
We give them the option of putting it on their transcript. If it doesn't go on, then they have to repeat Algebra I in the HS. If they use it, it's counted into their GPA but not as 1 of the 3 maths they have to take.

8th grade Algebra is put on our students transcripts for grad credit, but it does not count as one of the three required math credits taken during grades 9-12 for graduation....
My question is: When you put the 8th grade on the high school transcript, do you include as part of the High School GPA credit? Or do you use pass/fail with no gpa calculation?

Jill, I'm sending out your question and also answering it for others to see.

If the 8th grader is taking a high school course taught by a high school teacher, Algebra I, you have to put it on the transcript and give the credit due for taking the class. Yes, that student still has to take 3 more math classes in high school. If you put a pass/fail on the student's transcript that will be added in as a "D" if he/she is an OK Promise student.
