[Counselors] Selective Service

It is not the school’s responsibility to see that the guys are registered. However, there is a program that allows you to do the registration. They can simply go to the post office and complete a registration card. Of course, when we complete the FAFSA, it asks if they are registered and if not, it can complete the registration for them. Personally, I did not choose to do registrations at school for various reasons.

I'm pretty sure that when parents sign up for their kids social security numbers, the boys are flagged for Selective Service then.

I have two sons who are over the age of 18. They both received postcards saying they were registered when they turned 18, but I am not sure how this was done--maybe through driver's license as someone stated.

I think the students can mark something when they get their permits to drive that will automaticly sign them up when they get 18. The past three or four years I had my students go sign up, to find out that they were already signed up.

Counselors,

Does anyone know if it is the schools responsibility to make sure male students register for selective service?
