[Counselors] High School History/Social Studies Courses Schedule

[OSRHE EPAS PK-12 Counselor Discussion Board]

9th: Oklahoma History (1 sem.) and Government (1 sem.)

10th: Modern History (We feel it helps the students to take this course before taking U.S. History)

11th:  U. S. History

12th:  World History or World Geography ��� both are 2 semesters

At times we have been able to offer Native American History and the student enjoyed the course.

At McAlester, we moved our Government to the senior year due to the results of surveys completed by our former graduates who felt that when they took Government at the college, they were  expected to know things they hadn’t learned since their freshmen year.

9th � Oklahoma History/World Cultures
10th � World History
11th � US History
12 � Economics/ Government or American Federal Government and American History concurrently

It has worked out well as half of them take the government at our community college.

We are wanting to revamp our course requirements for history classes, specifically where our government is placed and its length.

Currently we have 1/2 credit in freshman year but history teachers are proposing 1 credit in senior year. The district administration need more information of what others are doing and the pros and cons seen.
