Is he currently on Sooner Care? I recently helped a student get signed back onto Sooner Care because he was needing some medical treatment. It was rather easy to get him signed up. At the completion of application, we knew immediately if he qualified or not. Sooner Care will cover eye exams and some glasses. Please call me, I have some other opinions you might be interested in.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

I would check with the local Lions' Club.
If the student is Native American and has an IBN card, he should qualify for Johnson O'Malley funds to pay for an eye exam and glasses or contacts. If he does not have a card, but is Native American, you could contact the tribe.
He should also qualify for Sooner Care, if he is technically homeless and qualifies for McKinney-Vento, I believe. Is he 18 yet?

The North Enid Lion's Club provides glasses. I don't know what their requirements are, but here is their contact info: (580) 234-8485, admn.n.enid.lions at gmail.com<mailto:admn.n.enid.lions at gmail.com>

I would check your Local Lions Club. Their main mission is about providing eye glasses to those who need them.

Our local Lions Club does our children who can't afford glasses. I think that it is internationally that they do this.

I know the Lions Club in our area have provided exams/glasses for our students. You might reach out to them or an organization like that.

I am sure that there are organizations that can provide glasses, but he will need to get a prescription first. Probably the quickest remedy is to find someone in the community who might be willing to pay for an
optometrist visit.

I know for sure there are resources for Native American students.

If you have a local Lions club, that is one of their charities.

Subject: [Counselors] Help for student needing glasses

Does anyone know if there are resources for students who need an eye exam and glasses but cannot afford them? I have a senior who just realized he cannot see the smart board unless sitting up close. His dad is out of touch with him and his mom is in prison. He is staying with a family who currently supporting him, and they have other kids. We are a small school in western Oklahoma.
