Hello All,

In preparation of the 2019-2020 FAFSA State Deadline collection, the Ed Technical Committee would like to remind you of how the process works.

NASSGAP’s Ed Technical Committee collaborates with the Federal Student Aid (FSA) on the application delivery system and impacts on state aid.  One of the primary responsibilities is to provide the State deadline information to FSA, as well as to report changes/updates to deadlines.

The Ed Technical Committee will work directly with FSA on behalf of the states.  We use the contact information provided in the NASSGAP directory https://www.nassgap.org/membershipdirectory.aspx  to circulate the “State Deadline Reporting” spreadsheet to all applicable states. If the contact information is not correct for your state please notify me by email at donnae.thomas at maryland.gov<mailto:donnae.thomas at maryland.gov>.

Attached you will find the 2019-2020 state deadline for your review. On the attached spreadsheet you are to indicate your states’ deadlines for the 2019-2020 FAFSA.

Please note there are TWO sections on this worksheet: one marked Paper (i.e., for the paper FAFSA) and one marked FOTW (i.e., FAFSA on the Web).  As you know there are four symbols on the paper FAFSA that translate into text on FAFSA on the Web. For example, any state that elects to use the # symbol must include in the FAFSA on the Web deadline the following text: For priority consideration, submit application by date specified. The text “date received” on the paper FAFSA equates to “by midnight, Central Time,” on FAFSA on the Web.

It is important to note the text “date received” on the paper FAFSA equates to “by midnight, Central Time” for FOTW. The Department's Central Processing System (CPS) is located in the Central time zone, so we cannot modify states’ information to indicate different times or time zones. For states outside of the Central Time zone, actual time will be one or more hours before or after midnight in your time zone. This could be important to last-minute applicants. If they wish, states can request that the deadline date appear without the “by midnight, Central Time” message by indicating that they want only the date.

Please insert your new text for 2019-2020 in column E of BOTH worksheets (Paper & FOTW), as well as update the information in columns H-M.  If you are only updating the year, you can also just indicate “no change."  You may indicate multiple deadlines for different programs, if applicable. NASSGAP will compile the responses and circulate a final draft for review the week of March 5th just before submitting it to ED.

Please send your 2019-2020 deadlines to me by close of business on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.  It is important that we hear from every state!
