The Office of Financial Aid at Wichita State University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director for Customer Service & Training.

Position Description:  

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid for Customer Service / Training has the primary responsibility for customer service and staff training.  The assistant director oversees all client service functions including:  outreach activities, in-house advisor appointments and walk-in traffic, and front desk and telephone service areas.   The assistant director has direct supervision of two full-time classified staff and a staff of student employees.  The assistant director is a member of the central staff management team.


Responsibilities:

 Supervise delivery of service (walk-in and phone services plus campus and community presentations) to all prospective and current financial aid applicants.  Works with other staff to collect annual service statistics for various reports / surveys.
 Serves as office Omsbudperson to students / families seeking financial assistance.
 Responsible for gathering customer feedback on service performance for the office.  Will conduct follow-up with students / families as necessary. Will compile statistics in customer service area to assess whether office goals / standards are being met.
 Determines staffing patterns and needs of front desk and telephone operations.  Oversee scheduling of staff in both of these areas.
 Acts as liaison to the Admissions and Orientation Offices.  Develops publications and presentation materials.  Primary contact for activities and events.
 Coordinates development of all internal and external publications for the Office of Financial Aid, including quarterly newsletter.
 Counsels with prospective and current students and families regarding financial aid issues and concerns, including application and awarding process, budget issues and available options to meet their needs.
 Oversees comprehensive staff training for new staff and monitors need for on-going training for existing staff.  Coordinates staff training and monthly staff meetings for student employees.  Responsible for creation / updating of staff training manuals.
 Coordinates training and scheduling of student employees for the Office of Financial Aid.
 Establish and chair student advisory board for Office of Financial Aid.
 Will assist with packaging / processing of federal student aid as needed.
 Develop professionally by reading and attending professional conferences and workshops. 
 Be willing to assist in other areas as assigned.



Required Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree; effective oral and written communication skills; experience in and commitment to customer service; demonstrated commitment to diversity and successful experience working with diverse populations; knowledge of federal financial aid policies and programs; ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; and proven ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
