ASSISTANT DIRECTOR POSITION AVAILABLE AT UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
Bachelor’s degree required.  While the specific major is not critical,
course work in student personnel administration or counseling is desirable.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years of student financial aid experience.  Must be
extremely familiar with federal need analysis principles, systems and
practices.  Must have proven record of working with complex, sensitive and
occasionally confrontational student and parent situations.  Specific
experience supervising professional financial aid personnel and working with
large automated student financial aid systems is helpful.  Knowledge of the
PeopleSoft Student Information System is a plus.  The successful candidate
will also possess a proven record of commitment to and ability to work
effectively with groups and individuals from a variety of identities,
ethnicities, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

DUTIES:
Major areas of responsibility include the counseling, outreach and need
analysis service activities of the Office of Student Financial Services
(OSFS).  Assign, schedule and supervise the work of ten advisors, four
seasonal need analysis specialists and 15 student part-time staff (3 FTE).
Coordinate the training for these and occasionally other staff within the
office.  Provide oversight of the need analysis process and coordinate an
annual update of office policies and procedures manual.  Oversee the walk-in
and telephone traffic as well as the incoming e-mail correspondence of the
reception area.  Oversee OSFS publications and other information
dissemination efforts.  Assist the Associate Director in the coordination of
the appeal committee process.  Coordinate requests to OSFS for speakers and
presentations off and on campus.  Deal with sensitive or difficult student
or parent situations.  Represent OSFS with various on and off-campus units.
Participate fully on the Office Leadership Team (OLT).

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The minimum starting salary will be no less than $48,000.  Actual starting
salary determined by experience, etc.  This is an academic staff appointment
and is on a twelve-month basis.  Benefits include paid holidays, 22 days
vacation, group life insurance, medical insurance and retirement plan.
