Hello Everyone:

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The National Sexual Violence
Resource Center encourages nationwide involvement in raising the
awareness of sexual assault. The purposes it to promote a better
understanding of the devastating impact of sexual violence on
individuals and society. An awareness campaign is a necessary first
step in the struggle to prevent sexual violence.

The Campus Violence Prevention Project's focus for this years Sexual
Assault Awareness Month will be "Developing Healthy, Respectful
Relationships." Please watch for flyers and events around campus during
this month to promote awareness and understanding.

Sexual violence is primarily a crime of power and control. It can
impact all people, regardless of age, ethnicity, race or economic
status. Although younger women represent the majority of victims, not
all young women are at equal risk for sexual violence. Additionally,
there are other populations with high rates of sexual victimization such
as Native Americans, Immigrants and the elderly that are often voiceless
in society and marginalized from medical, legal and social services.

1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18.

In 8 out of 10 rape cases, the victim knew the perpetrator.

I will be providing information throughout the month to heighten your
awareness. If you are in need of any of the services that are provided
through the campus violence prevention project, please drop by or call.
We are prepared to assist you.

Have a great day.
