NORMAN - Representatives from 30 academic institutions in 11 states, 36
commercial firms, 16 government agencies and four non-governmental
organizations are among the 300 registrations for the fourth annual
Oklahoma Supercomputing Symposium, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday,
Oct. 4 and 5, at the University of Oklahoma. The symposium is free and
open to the public.

"Oklahoma has become a regional center for supercomputing education and
research, and we are excited to be a part of the growth and success of
the supercomputing industry through OSCER and the Oklahoma
Supercomputing Symposium," said Dennis Aebersold, CIO and university
vice president for Information Technology at OU. "Strong collaborations
and partnerships among academia, industry and government are important
to the future of supercomputing, and OU Information Technology will
continue its role as a catalyst for technology networking through
education and awareness."

"We are very proud to host the only supercomputing symposium in Oklahoma
and the only annual supercomputing conference in the entire region,"
said Henry Neeman, director of the OU Supercomputing Center for
Education and Research, or OSCER. "It is exciting to see such broad
interest in high-performance computing, with strong participation from
academia, government and industry, and participants ranging from high
school students to professionals to retirees," Neeman added. "This
event is a unique opportunity to learn about the future of computing
because whatever happens in supercomputing today will be on desktops 10
years from now."

A Welcome Reception and Poster Session sponsored by Intel and Uptime is
scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Stephenson Research and
Technology Center, 101 David L. Boren Blvd., on OU's Research Campus.
The symposium continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Thurman
J. White Forum Building, 1704 Asp Ave.

The reception will provide an opportunity for leaders, potential
collaborators, colleagues, and employers from academia, government and
industry to meet one another. The event also will include a vendor
exposition in which participants will have an opportunity to learn about
existing and emerging high-performance computing technologies.

This year's academic symposium sponsors include Oklahoma
EPSCoR, the Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce, the OU Department of
Information Technology, the Office of the OU Vice President for
Research, the OU Supercomputing Center for Education and Research,
