I don't usually ask for lender information in such a
"public" way, but there is something I'd like you all to
consider providing on your web pages. I always tell
you that I won't be shy about telling you when I want
something from you, so here goes.
As part of our "one lender, one guarantor" effort, we are actively
researching
student NSLDS records to determine prior lender and guarantor
and using that information to certify any new loans.
Sometime, we're trying to mail paper Stafford certifications,
sometimes we need the address to tell the borrower where to send an MPN.
We're
running into a small problem.....the lender address information
in NSLDS can be, how shall I say this politely,.....CRAP.
It isn't your fault, it isn't NSLDS's fault. Shoot, OU's mailing
address on NSLDS is David Boren's office and we all know
he enjoys forwarding SARs & 1040s, etc. to our office....NOT.
Now, most of you, and your lender codes, we know very well. I have
lender codes and po boxes etched in my brain. I have the OGSLP lender
list on my PC desktop and my OGSLP School/Lender Directory right by
my phone. But, sometimes, with lenders who have multiple lender codes &
associated servicers,
it can be a real pain trying to figure out where to mail this stuff.
Because the NSLDS entries have corporate headquarters addresses.
For instance, I am pretty darn sure that the folks at corporate headquarters
for
Citibank Student Loans in Pittsford, NY don't actually process Stafford
Loans,
but the only mailing address for Citibank in NSLDS is Pittsford. And,
even if you
only have 1 code, think about the FAA at BFE Community College in Podunk,
USA who
has an Okie attending & is mailing stuff for First Natl Bank of Coalgate to
Coalgate instead of OSLA.
But, I'm not here to just gripe, I'm here to tell you I found a wonderful
example of just
what I needed on the Chase web site (yes, I've already told Jennifer and
Jennifer's boss they did a good job).
Under the FAA section, Chase has a list of the guarantors they work with.
AND, even BETTER,
they have a chart of which Chase lender code is handled by which
servicer!!!! Once I narrow down
the servicer, I've got a pretty good shot at getting the materials to the
right place. Addresses for
applications, MPNs and payments would be HEAVEN. (If they're kept current.)

If you want to do a service to schools, give us a tool like this on your web
page. Yes, we know we can always
call you for help but if we can find a reliable web based tool, we are more
self-sufficient. It will save
everyone (except your IT staff) time and effort, and will endear you to
financial aid administrators all over the country.
At ease, smoke em if you got em. That is all.
