The Beatles were from Enid. :) We're glad people had fun with them!

And I was so pleased that Ron Frantz received the Legacy Award! He found out he was having twins when he was here in Newkirk for a visit! That was pretty exciting. I was proud that the Newkirk Junior Main Streeters were recognized. We had five of the very early ones attend - including Michael who was the reason that it even came to be and Meghan who as a fifth grader came up with their slogan - "Living in the future to repair the past." Of the original four we had Michael and Crystal. Jed, of course, gave his life for his country in Iraq and to honor his memory, we have the Jed Cord students. One of the original four seems to have dropped off the face of the earth as we cannot find Sarah. At one time we had ordered them all Junior Main Street watches with their slogan on them and Tessa still had hers and wore it. It was an emotion
 al
evening for me as this was the first time in probably 15 years that I had seen these five awesome young adults.

When Steven was presented the Director of the Year Award my mind went back remembering Watonga Bob and his sweet sense of humor, his kindness, that grin that was so endearing, and his enthusiastic love of Watonga. I loved being around Watonga Bob, and there was Steven, who was the Mutt to Watonga Bob's Jeff. They and their wives were the best of friends and it was a friendship that not everyone gets to have. And I sat there and cried. FUNNY PART: The football players thought I was crying because I had lost. Shees. No award and their recipient was so right, in my mind, as Steven accepting the Watonga Bob Award. Besides, Steven is a fantastic Main Street Director and has been for over 20 years … I mean, really?

I am aware of how honored everyone feels to receive this, and the excitement that goes along with it. As for Cherokee Main Street, it was truly special. Phyllis Puffinbarger, nearly 80 now, was thrilled with this last evening. She kept a smile on her face as she held it in her lap for the rest of the evening and continued to run her fingers over the lettering.
