I believe, but don't know for sure, that this is in place to save work for Admissions and keep the student record system uncluttered with all the students who apply, accept, but end up going to another institution.

Good afternoon OACADA Colleagues,

The State Regents staff are currently examining our policy related to the awarding of credit for prior learning, specifically Policy 3.15.3(B), which reads:

Credit awarded to a student for prior learning must be validated by successful completion of 12 or more semester hours at the awarding institution before being placed on the student's official transcript. An institutional policy exception to this provision must be requested by the institution and approved by the State Regents.

As you are no doubt aware, under this policy, credit for prior learning such as AP, CLEP, military training, etc. cannot currently be transcripted until after the students earns 12 hours at the institution.  Since several institutions have requested exceptions to the policy, we are examining whether it should be discarded altogether or if it serves any useful purpose.

I am requesting your feedback on whether eliminating this policy provision would have an impact on you as academic advisors and/or on your students.  If you would like to provide input about whether this would be a help or hindrance in the academic advising process, please reply to this email with your thoughts.
